CUMBRIA RAYNET GROUP

Following an inspiring talk from the Dumfries & Galloway Raynet Group a group of members from the Carlisle & District Amateur Radio Club decided there was a need for an active group to provide assistance if required in Cumbria and this led to the inaugural meeting of the then North Pennines Raynet Group on 20th May 2008.

The first meeting was held in the Emergency Planning Offices at Carlisle Castle and since then we have secured an occasional meeting venue at Carlisle Fire Station, Warwick Street, Carlisle, CA3 8QW.

Following the floods in West Cumbria in 2009, during which the group assisted the emergency services, it was decided by members that we could better serve our community by becoming an independant organisation rather than being part of the national Raynet Network. Our name was changed from North Pennines Raynet Group to the Cumbria Raynet Group and we became affilliated to the RSGB.

We are still a small group and we would welcome more members to satisfactorily meet existing requests for assistance and, more particularly, if there is a real crisis the emergency services may need all the help they can get.
