This took place on Sunday 6th September. Rob, Peter, Noel Alistair, John (G4ISS) and
John (G4ZBW) represented the Group. The organiser sent an e-mail after the event thanking
everybody for helping. This event required the use of talk through but unfortunately
we could not get assistance from anybody with a lightweight talk through rig to go on top of
Place Fell. John (G4ISS) therefore took on the role of relay to pass messages from the
top of Kirkstone Pass to control which was near the steamer jetty at Glenridding. Two
other members were brave enough to climb Helvellyn, Noel and Alistair. This should really
read three as Alistair’s wife Katie accompanied and assisted Alistair. The radio
communications worked well after John (G4ZBW) had erected a yagi aerial on top of his vehicle
at Kirkstone Pass. A mention should also be made of Jean, John’s wife, who ably
assisted John by running backwards and forwards between John and the marshal. One incident
occurred which required a priority call for an ambulance for an injured cyclist. This
incident involved the Group with two other sets of people, in addition to the organiser; St
Johns ambulance and the motorcyclists who were following the cyclists. The motorcyclists
thanked John (G4ZBW) for our help with the incident. The motorcyclists were using CB
radios.
